The Make in Finland – The Manufacturing Industry Ecosystem works towards sustainable and innovative practices that drive global leadership. The collaboration brings together around twenty key players from the manufacturing and digitalisation sectors.
“The Technology Industries of Finland welcomes with joy the companies’ decision to improve their collaboration by creating a new common ecosystem instead of separate networks. This eliminates the challenges of separate solutions, strengthens the competitiveness of all companies within the ecosystem, while still maintaining the benefits of healthy mutual competition,” says Jaakko Hirvola, CEO of Technology Industries of Finland.
The Make in Finland ecosystem believes that the manufacturing industry needs continuous renewal to enhance sustainability, responsibility as well as impact in innovation and growth. This is done by better exploiting new technology solutions and sharing information. The development is supported by the fact that the ecosystem involves actors from the entire value chain of the manufacturing industry, from design to production and all the way to sales and distribution. Make in Finland plays a crucial role as the implementer of the Smart Manufacturing Roadmap 2035, which was released in the spring.
Founding members from Wärtsilä to Konecranes
The founders of Make in Finland are members of the FAMN and MEX Finland ecosystems and companies belonging to the SIX Manufacturing consortium. Founding members include Wärtsilä, Konecranes, Nokia, Tasowheel, TT Gaskets, Elematic, Danfoss Drives, Meyer Turku, Sandvik, Siemens, Ponsse, Fastems, KL Mechanics, Prima Power and Beckhoff Automation.
”Through collaboration, we can create new opportunities that support the success and responsibility of all participants. We want to be actively involved in this development and bring together various actors, whose combined efforts will advance the entire ecosystem. Sharing data and information and collaborating are the keys to success, as they enable better decision-making and resource optimization. We believe that the ecosystem model is the path towards a more sustainable and responsible future, and we are committed to promoting these values,” says Markku Häivälä, Director of Research & Innovation at Konecranes.
A strong will to grow together
DIMECC Ltd, which has been spearheading collaboration and digitalisation in the manufacturing industry since 2008, was chosen to lead the new ecosystem.
“The pace of change is accelerating, complexity is increasing, and new digital elements will complement the established technology base. The best way to ensure success in such a dynamic environment is to have an ecosystem of specialised players as a peer group close around” says Harri Kulmala, CEO of DIMECC.
“Companies now have a strong will to work together to develop the future and competitiveness of the Finnish manufacturing industry. No one alone has all the necessary know-how, resources and solutions to meet future challenges nor seize new opportunities. These are multiple and complex, which is why by working closely together we can achieve more, faster and more effectively. This is a starting point towards concrete steps on this path”, says Clémentine Arpiainen, Ecosystem Lead of the Make in Finland.
All stakeholders interested in contributing to the growth of the Finnish manufacturing industry are welcome to join the ecosystem. In particular, the SME sector and experts from different backgrounds of all organisations are encouraged to participate widely. The ecosystem will work closely with education and research organisations both nationally and internationally.
